Health Plan & Payer Recognition

Understanding the U.S. Payer Landscape:

Health insurance is regulated at the state level, and with more than 6,000 insurers operating nationwide, policies can vary widely—even within a single brand. For this reason, we encourage physicians to contact their specific payers directly to confirm recognition of ABPS certification.

Growing Recognition:

ABPS certification is increasingly accepted by major health plans and hospital systems across the U.S. While we do not track every plan’s policy, we are encouraged by the expanding recognition of ABPS as a credible and rigorous certifying body.

ABPS Meets National Credentialing Standards:

Most health plans must meet credentialing requirements set by organizations such as the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC). ABPS meets or exceeds the standards required by both. All Diplomates’ and applicants’ credentials are primary source verified by Verisys, a Joint Commission and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accredited Credentials Verification Organization (CVO). In addition, ABPS Member Boards are listed in the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare’s (CAQH) Proview application.

If your payer needs additional information to confirm ABPS’s compliance, we are happy to provide documentation and assist with your communications.
